The Irish Harness Racing Club are currently finalizing an international agreement with the French Trotting Authority Le Trot to purchase trotting horses both mares and geldings for racing and ultimately for breeding on an affordable cost basis. Le Trot will subsidize the prize money on offer in Ireland for Trotteur Francais only races in 2014 and subsequent years, it is envisaged that the minimum total purse on offer for these races will be in the region of €1250 per race with an estimated 60 races being run over the course of the season. The purchase costs of mares whose progeny will be eligible for the Stud Book will also be part subsidised by Le Trot. In accordance with this agreement the IHRC will be responsible for operating a Trotteur Francais Daughter Stud Book in Ireland and progeny which meet the Stud Book requirements will be eligible to race in France. Details of the selection process and purchase arrangements for these horses will be finalized in the next week. On current predictions it is expected that upwards of thirty horses will be purchased in the first phase as part of a group scheme.
