Please see below from the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine regarding the registration of horses with handwritten microchips on their applications which will come into affect from Monday the 1st of December.
“Handwritten marking charts including handwritten microchip numbers can result in incorrect transcribing of chip numbers. This has resulted in confusion and admin burden when the error is discovered and needs to be rectified. In some instances, deliberate transcription errors have taken place for food fraud purposes. The Department must take all necessary steps to prevent food fraud and protect Ireland’s reputation for high standards of food safety and authenticity. For this reason, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine from 1 December is requiring additional supporting documentation where an equine is being identified and the chip number has been handwritten on to the marking chart. Operators will now need to email a photo showing the chip number as displayed on a scanner.”
All pictures of the scanners must be emailed to studbook@irishharnessracing.com
