Racing on the Cork circuit gets underway this coming Sunday with a return to Inchydoney Beach in Clonaklity following a very succesful meeting last September after a lapse of close on 20 years. Horse numbers are beginning to make an upward climb as economic confidence begins to make a welcome return, upwards of 40 entries are expected for this pitcheresque setting.
The first of the Trotteur Francais race series got underway at Portmarnock on Sunday last with two faultless displays over a distance of one and half miles. In the first contest Rubis De Loirin a five year old gelding with a lifetime record of two minutes and lifetime earnings of €60K took the honours for Martin Loughran by one and a half lenghts from the Meadowbranch Syndicate owned towering chestnut Radjah Normand. In the second contest an outside chance Rose De Crennes a nine year old mare owned by the Meadowbranch Syndicate and driven by John Richardson took the laurels from the Flowerpot Brigade Syndicate owned Romeo Du Centaure in rein to Christy Foran.
